Startup sectors

Data rooms for robotics startups.

Robotics startups combine hardware, software and field operations, so investors check all three: safety compliance and risk assessments, pilot results and fleet performance data, unit economics of sold or leased robots, manufacturing and service plans, and liability insurance. Pilot to contract conversion is often the most read file.

How it works for a startup.

Industrial and service robots must meet safety standards set by the deployment setting, such as ISO 10218 and the matching US standard for industrial robots, or other standards for mobile and service robots. Customers' safety teams review risk assessments before allowing robots on site, and investors want to see those approvals.

Many robotics companies sell through robots-as-a-service contracts, charging a monthly fee per unit. Reviewers then look at fleet uptime, interventions per hour of operation, service costs, contract length and who carries the risk of damage. Pilots that never convert are a common concern.

Acquirers and strategic investors, often large industrial companies, also look at integration with their own systems, the software stack and data rights over what robots record on customer sites.

Set up the room in 6 steps.

  1. 1

    Lead with field results

Summarise deployments, uptime and pilot conversion on one page, linked to raw fleet data.

  2. 2

    Document safety compliance

List the standards you follow and file risk assessments and any third-party evaluations.

  3. 3

    Show unit economics honestly

Include service and replacement costs, not just build cost.

  4. 4

    Collect pilot records

File each pilot agreement with its success criteria and the outcome.

  5. 5

Upload video and data in bulk

Demo videos and logs are large; upload them in bulk into clear folders.

  6. 6

    Track partner interest

View analytics show which strategic investors read the safety and fleet files.

Common mistakes.

  • Pilots with no defined success criteria, so conversion cannot be judged.
  • Unit economics that leave out field service costs.
  • Safety incidents not logged or not disclosed.
  • No clear terms on data robots collect at customer sites.

Questions founders ask

What is robots-as-a-service?
A model where customers pay a recurring fee for robots, often including maintenance, instead of buying them. Investors look at fleet utilisation and service costs to judge it.
Which safety standards apply to robots?
It depends on the robot and where it works. Industrial robots commonly follow ISO 10218 and its US equivalent; mobile and service robots have their own standards.
What fleet data do investors want?
Units deployed, uptime, interventions per operating hour, service events and how these change across product revisions.
