Before the sales call.

A quote-only vendor asks five things. Have the answers ready and you get a firm number in one call.

  1. How much data? Gigabytes or pages. The biggest lever on a quote.
  2. For how long? First invite to closing, plus a month of slack.
  3. Who works on your side? The admins who upload and answer questions.
  4. What support level? Business hours, 24 hours, or a named project manager.
  5. Any extras? Redaction, single sign-on, a second room for a parallel process.

Questions founders ask

How much should a startup budget for a data room?
Published plans on our list start at $15 a month and flat room plans reach $299. A three-month seed raise on a flat plan usually lands in the hundreds of dollars; the same job in a quote-based deal room is commonly several thousand.
Who pays for the data room when a startup is sold?
The company on the sell side usually opens and pays for the room, because it controls what buyers see. In a banker-led sale the bank often picks the vendor and the fee is settled by the company in the deal costs.
Do investors pay or count as users?
Investors and buyers join as invited guests and are not charged. Most room plans bill for admins on your side and for storage; tools billed per sender charge for each teammate who shares files.
What happens to the cost after the round closes?
On a month-to-month plan you export the room, keep the copy with the closing documents and cancel. Keep it open only if you reuse it for board packs or investor updates.
Why do quote-only rooms not show a price?
10 of the 17 rooms here price each project after a call, because data size, months, users and support all change the figure. They mostly serve banker-led sales and large rounds.
