About Startup Data Rooms.

An independent handbook for founders who need a virtual data room for a round, a diligence review or the sale of the company.

Updated Oct 17, 2026

Why this site exists

Most data room reviews are written for bankers and corporate development teams. Founders have a different job. They build the room themselves, usually at night, while the round is already moving. They pay for it out of runway. And they need it to work on the phone of a partner who reads between meetings.

Startup Data Rooms covers the room from the founder’s side: what to put in it at each stage, how much it costs, which providers fit which job, and what investors and acquirers look for once they are inside.

What we publish

Who writes it

The site is written by a small editorial team with backgrounds in startup finance, venture deals and software buying. Pages carry the byline “Startup Data Rooms editors” rather than individual names. We work from vendor documentation, published prices, security attestations and our shared facts file, and we say so on every page where it matters. We do not claim hands-on tests we have not run.

How we are funded

Some links to providers earn us a commission. That never changes a score or the order of a list, and partners cannot pay to be included. The details are on our commissions page and our editorial standards.
